Monitoring your student at home

Once in awhile I’m asked by a parent on what is the best method to monitor their student’s computer activity at home.  This is difficult, because many believe if a teenager is determined to access prohibited material they will find someway to do it.

We recommend having the computer in a visible area of the house.  This combined with clear expectations can curb some of this behavior.  If you wish to combine this technique with a software solution, here are a few of quality guides to help you.

New Direction for the Blog

I’ve barely gotten started and I’m already changing things up. At the start, I envisioned this blog to target the teachers, students and parents of my school. But recently, I have changed the school over to My Big Campus, more on this later. It turns out, that MBC is a better platform for me to reach out to the local community. So I will be using this blog to post useful information for Ed Tech community.

Up until now, I’ve been mostly re-posting information. Hopefully, I’ll be able to find more time to produce original content. The biggest topic being the implementation of a 1 to 1 iPad program for LD students. Stay tuned.

Reflection App allows you to mirror your iPad on your Mac

Put this in the “wish I’d known that sooner category”. When I was looking for a solution to screen capture my iPad I immediately researched the options for PCs. I ended up buying a Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle for a couple hundred. It works great, but a bit on the pricey side. On the Mac side, you can now get the Reflection app, which allows you to mirror your iPad on a Mac via AirPlay. Nice and simple and $15 bucks. Check it out. www.reflectionapp.com
